Let’s kick off our annual meeting in good spirits with good friends.

Our happy hour host is ASA’s President, Glenn Hughes.

Trader Vic’s Mai Tai

3/4 ounce fresh lime juice
1/2 ounce curaçao
1/4 ounce orgeat
1/4 ounce rich demerara simple syrup (with a 2:1 ratio of water to sugar)
2 ounces aged pot still or blended rum

Combine all ingredients with 12 ounces of crushed ice and some cubes in a shaker. Shake until chilled and pour — ice and all — into a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with a spent lime shell and mint sprig.

Wet Your Whistle Wednesday

Back in the middle ages, beer was sold in ceramic cups fitted with a small whistle. When you wanted another round, you blew the whistle to get the attention of the bar staff. Therefore, to get a beer you would literally be “wetting your whistle.”

Grab your favorite beer and join us! But since we’re not together this year, perhaps leave the whistle behind.

Throwback Thursday

Let’s celebrate our founding members. The very first meeting to organize the association took place on June 30, 1933, in Washington, D.C. The Lime Rickey is Washington’s official cocktail. It can be made with either gin or bourbon. Raise a glass to 88 more years!

Our happy hour host is ASA’s new board of directors Chairman, Jesse Simpkins.

Lime Rickey

2 ounces gin or bourbon
1/2 ounce fresh lime juice
Soda water, to top
Garnish: lime wheels

Fill a highball glass with ice and add the gin and lime juice. Top with soda water. Garnish with 2 lime wheels.
